Initial registration interview/appointment
If you are registering for the first time in Tasmania and you know, or have been told by Medical Council Secretariat staff, that you meet the requirements for registration, please make sure that you make an appointment before coming to the Secretariat offices with your relevant documentation. Thank you.
General registration forms and information
Registered under section 19 of the Medical Practitioners Registration Act 1996. These practitioners are Australian or New Zealand graduates who have completed the approved period of twelve months training as an intern, or
international medical graduates who have passed the Australian Medical Council's examinations and completed the approved period of twelve months supervised training.

Non-practising registration
Registered under section 22 of the Medical Practitioners Registration Act 1996. These practitioners choose to remain on the Register, but are not eligible to practise medicine in Tasmania in any capacity.
Conditional Registration for Interns
Registered under section 20 of the Medical Practitioners Registration Act 1996. These practitioners have completed their medical degrees and are undertaking the approved period of twelve months training as an intern, in order to be eligible to apply for general registration.

Conditional - International Medical Graduates ("IMG's) - (Non-Specialist)
Predominantly registered under section 21(2)(g) (Area of Need) of the Medical Practitioners Registration Act 1996. These practitioners are overseas-trained doctors who have not yet passed the Australian Medical Council's examinations or not yet met the relevant Specialist College's examination requirements.

Register of Medical Practitioners
The Medical Practitioners Registration Act 1996 states that a person may, on payment of the prescribed fee, inspect the register at the office of the Council. Such prescribed fee is $10 for each inspection/enquiry. We do accept such enquiries by telephone upon payment of the prescribed fee.
A hard-copy version of the "Register of Medical Practitioners" (as at May 2008) is available for a fee of $50. In addition, we can provide monthly updates (from
November 2007 and up to October 2008) for an annual fee of $120. Please contact the Secretariat office if you wish to avail yourself of this service. Alternatively, you may download the attached order form and return it to the Secretariat office.
